Skydivers identified after fatal mid-air collision in southeast Washington

ADAMS COUNTY, Wash. – One skydiver died and another was injured in a midair collision Sunday evening in Adams County, according to the local sheriff’s office.

Emergency crews were called to the 2000 block of E. Schoessler Road at about 5:37 p.m. May 24 after receiving a report that two skydivers with West Plains Skydiving needed medical attention.

The Adams County Sheriff’s Office identified the skydivers as Randy Hubbs, of Kennewick, and Nicole Klein, of Colville.

Deputies said they learned at the scene that the two skydivers had collided in the air, causing Hubbs to become incapacitated and no longer in control of his parachute.

He was tracked from about 500 feet off the ground as he drifted. He appeared to be unresponsive, with his arms and head down.

Hubbs was pronounced dead, while Klein was taken to a medical facility for additional treatment.

Officials said weather was not an issue.

The investigation is ongoing. If you have information, contact the Adams County Sheriff’s Office at 509-659-1122 or email CrimeTips@co.adams.wa.gov.
